How Hot Stone Massage Can Help Ease Painful Symptoms
There are many different types of massage you can go for and each is specifically designed to help you in different ways.
All massage therapy, for example, aims to help you sleep better, feel less anxious, feel more relaxed and better able to manage stress. Deep tissue massage, meanwhile, aims to break down muscle tension, adhesions and knots by targeting the inner layers of muscle and connective tissue.
And then there’s hot stone massage… a technique that might at first glance seem to be more of a luxurious treat than something that could yield similar benefits to deep tissue manipulation – but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
The practice itself involves the use of smooth dark basalt stones that retain heat well, warmed in a water bath to a comfortable and safe temperature. They’re then positioned on specific areas of your body, typically along the spine but also potentially between your toes or in the palms of your hands.
Your massage therapist will then glide the stones down your back to help you relax and drift off into a sea of bliss, working them over areas of tightness in the shoulders, neck, lower back and legs.
Not only is it incredibly relaxing, but the heat from the stones delivers other benefits, as well, including helping with chronic pain.
Circulation and blood flow increase, reducing pain, soreness and tension… and many people with conditions like arthritis, lower back pain and fibromyalgia report feeling an improvement in symptoms after this type of massage.
Here at Round House Therapies, I can easily tailor different massages to suit whatever it is you need – so if you’re coming to see me for a deep tissue massage, you can always ask to have a few hot stones added into the mix, really making the most of your hour with me!
I’m also a specialist in pain reduction, so if this is something you need, make sure you let me know. If you’d like to find out more about massage therapy and the associated benefits, give the team a call today.
