Indian Head Massage Therapy
… is a traditional Indian technique of treating the upper back, neck, shoulders, face and scalp, with the client seated in a chair. The traditional treatment uses oils such as coconut and sesame oil to nourish the scalp and hair. In India, a head massage is traditionally performed as part of the treatment given by barbers and masseurs and is commonly seen being performed on Street corners, markets and the beach. In the UK, Indian Head Massage has become popular to treat symptoms of stress, fatigue and depression. This wonderfully relaxing treatment is ideal for people who do not feel comfortable with regular massage and can be carried out easily at home or in the work environment.
How does it work ?
Indian Head Massage Works on both a physical and psychological level, to de-stress the whole body. By massaging the head and shoulders, energies will become re-balanced and a general feeling of relaxation and well-being will be achieved . Indian Head Massage improves blood flow to the head and neck by warming the muscles and clearing areas that are tight and restricted. This in turn provides the whole body with additional oxygen and nutrients.
What does a treatment involve?
Treatment is carried out to bare shoulders, arms and upper back, then the scalp and face. The client sits in a regular chair with a towel around them to keep warm and protect modesty. Home visits are possible as I only need a chair to perform this fabulous treatment for you.
What are the benefits ?
The therapeutic effects of Indian Head Massage last long after the treatment is over. The short and long-term benefits are individual, varied and cumulative and can help to:
- relieve eyestrain and headaches
- improve concentration
- relieve physical and mental fatigue
- improve joint mobility
- relieve stress and muscular tension
- improve sleep
- eases depression
As well as being a relaxing encounter, it can also be an invigorating and refreshing experience. The recipient of the treatment will often report a ‘balanced’ feeling of peace and calm and will usually feel more alert due to increased blood flow to the head.Therapies such as Indian Head Massage aim to treat the whole person and not the symptoms of the disease. Indian Head Massage helps to restore a state of balance by relieving stress through the body’s natural healing process. Once the body is “in tune”, it is wise to have regular treatments to help maintain a state of balance.
How do I know if it’s right for me?
This treatment is not recommended for anyone with serious neck and shoulder issues as it is such a gentle treatment and only 45 mins long. For this I would suggest a lying down massage such as Deep Tissue. Indian Head is perfect for you if you are feeling emotional, tense and in need of de-stressing.It also makes a lovely Gift and is very suitable for older people who are uncomfortable lying on their fronts or backs.
